Yep, today popsicle sticks are the toy of the day. Who knew right? If any of you are unlucky enough to have purchase a 1000 count box of sticks for an art project that needed 20 sticks.. then tune in. We've found some other uses for this seemingly boring craft supply.
1. Forming letters and words. Have your toddler or older child form letters using the sticks. T and X are easy, you've got to get a little more creative for B, but it still works. Older children can make words. The possibilities are endless with 1000 of these puppies.
2. Counting practice. How many sticks are in the pile?... Anyone want to count to 1000?
3. Strength test. Lets see if you can break 1 stick, now lets put 2 together and see if you can break them, now three... You get the point. Everett was pretty proud of himself for breaking 1 stick. I let him break 10. Only 990 sticks to go!
That's about as far as we got today. Those are the super easy things to do. You could also:
1. Color each stick a different color and practice saying colors
2. Make a stick house with glue for the 3 little piggys
3. Make Popsicles. (duh!)
4. Make puppets
These all require other supplies and time, but can help get rid of 1000 sticks!
Wait, Dave just trumped all of Everett and I's popsicle stick ideas. I guess you can make popsicle stick exploding ninja stars, search it on youtube.com, or if you have a lot of time on your hands you can made a huge popsicle stick bomb. I posted a video of a world record popsicle stick bomb. They used 4000+ sticks, so you would only need 4 boxes. See above post.
Happy popsicle stick day!
