This year was the first year we ventured out and picked apples. It was surprisingly fun! We drove west for about 45 minutes and found ourselves in a beautiful apple orchard nestled up to the Appalachian Mountains. It was so serene and more beautiful than I thought it would be.

The kids had a blast! They loved every piece of dirt and fermented apple lying on the ground and ran and played up and down the rows of apple trees.
It also helped to have some great friends with us, the Harding family. Berkeley was enamored by sweet little Christian, as you can see in this picture. Hannah and Everett were little buddies as well.

The kids stopped and enjoyed some bluegrass while Dad bought the family some burgers and hotdogs.

The kids quickly learned how to use the apple picker to get apples from the top of the tree. Everett ate apples the entire time we were there. It was like the garden of Eden to him.
Here is a cute picture of our friends Bridget and Justin and their little one Christian and their daughter Eve in the background. Bridget is also pregnant with a baby girl and she's due 2 weeks before me.

Berkeley and Nelson working together.

Eve, Hannah and Alyvia "working" or playing. Who knew and apple picker could also be a stick horse?!

Everett and his love for the day.

After we got home I discovered that we had picked way more apples than we could ever eat, so I ventured out for the first time, yes my poor husband, to make my own apple pie. I also, for the first time ever, canned! It was a little intimidating, but with some pep talk and supplies from my mom, and some help from Our Best Bites, I ventured into the unknown world of canning and actually did it! Which proves anyone can do it!

They didn't turn out too shabby if I do say so myself. We will definitely be going back next year!

Oh my word Jana!! You're a freakin Betty Crocker. :) You know that's exactly what my mom liked to do with our apples on our trees. So now when I come over there you'll have to make me a pie too. :))
